Carlton Palace Hotel at Poseidonos Avenue, Palaio Faliro, Athens

The Carlton Miramare Palace Hotel was a prominent landmark of Palaio Faliro in Athens for a significant period of the 20th century. It was built in 1928 on Esperou - Alkyonis Streets and Poseidonos Avenue, originally named Megaro Grigoropoulos, while the hotel it housed was called "Miramare Palace." This hotel rivaled the similarly impressive Aktaion Hotel in Neo Faliro. Both were imitations of similar hotels on the French Riviera and Biarritz, designed in the Elizabethan style with metal domes and arches. A few years later, after a renovation on May 1, 1930, it became widely known as the "Carlton Palace." In 1941, after the first day of the German invasion of Palaio Faliro, the "Carlton Palace" was used to house the German administration of the KEA (German Economic Office). Eventually, it was demolished following the decision of June 17, 1969, and with it, Palaio Faliro lost one of the most significant examples of its former grandeur.
