The Anglo-Cypriot officer and interpreter, Dane, born to a Greek mother and an English father.

Officer Dane 

After the defeat of Turkey in World War I ( 1918 ), the presence of the fleet of the allied forces of the Entente is strong on the coast of Asia Minor.
On the beach of Aretsou, an English destroyer is moored on the beach of Aretsou whose English captain Patoyrel is staying in Paleokastro.  In 1922, after the defeat of the Greek army, developments become bad for the Greeks of Asia Minor. The Greek expeditionary force in Asia Minor collapses. The destruction and expatriation of the Greek population is very close. Turkish Chetniks reach the heights of Paleokastro and Reft Pasha occupies Nicomedia; the Bosphorus and the Propontis are almost empty of allied ships. The Greeks are trying by all means to flee to Greece. The Rysians were in time to leave their homes, their estates, their homeland, thanks to the altruism shown by a brave lad Dein (Dein), who is reported to be Danish or otherwise Cypriot and was an interpreter for the English captain Patoyrel.
At midnight on 21 September 1922, after the Greek expeditionary force of the Asia Minor, the Kemalist army breached the neutral zone and arrived near Paleokastro. Dane, knowing the intentions of the advancing Turks, rushed with an escort on horseback to Aretsou on the night of 21/9/1922 and informed the inhabitants of the danger they were in. Frightened, the inhabitants of Aretsou are able to leave, abandoning their beloved homeland, and a great disaster is avoided. In the morning they learn the sad news. On the way back, Dane is ambushed by the Turks and killed along with his escort. The Rysians give Dane a solemn funeral with as much honour as they can in those difficult hours. And they are grateful to this day. 
Dane is unforgettable in the memory of all those who were uprooted from their father's land and in the memory of the newer inhabitants of Neos Rysion and Nea Aretsou.
